The 2016 Porsche Macan and the 2016 Acura MDX are both premium crossover utility vehicles that provide performance, high tech features, and the highest quality. Both should satisfy most drivers, but if you’re among the discerning buyers who insist on driving only the best vehicle, consider this comparison before you make your decision.
Peek under the hood and you’ll find that both of these vehicles offer muscular V6 engines, but when it comes down to performance they differ considerably. Take a look:
Acura MDX: Under the hood the MDX packs a 3.5L V6 engine that generates 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. While front wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic are standard, all-wheel drive is available. The MDX can move from 0 to 60 mph in only 6.5 seconds.
Porsche Macan: The Macan starts with a 3.0L turbocharged V6 that makes 340 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. All models get a seven speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The Macan Turbo comes with a 3.6L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The Macan S will go from 0 to 60 mph in only 5.6 seconds, while the Macan Turbo only takes 4.4 seconds to do the job.
That power doesn’t just go to performance—the Macan can also tow up to 4,409 pounds, while the MDX can only tow up to 3,500 pounds.
While these two SUVs are obviously going to be well equipped as luxury vehicles, you’ll find some major differences. The Macan gets standard xenon headlights, two LCD screens, parking assistance, and a 40-20-40 split folding rear bench seat, plus an 11-speaker audio system. The Acura lacks all of those features, and only comes with an 8-speaker audio system.
